The blog post, reversed

This might be a scary picture of your blogger, about to eat a bacon mushroom cheeseburger with fries, plus green salad added for $1, all washed down with lemonade after walking around Golden Gate Park for an hour or two early this evening. Or maybe this is his date for the night and your blogger had a veggie burger with avocado and a cup of matcha.

IMG_5063

Or maybe this is his date for the night.

IMG_5060

Or maybe this is an anonymous little girl whose father parked her at the blogger's table...thinking that perhaps he would entertain her? Kind of like a date. Like our little dates?

Who knows exactly who is entertaining who here. You will have to decide those things for yourself. Or not. The blogger has not come here to impose his narrative on you.

I wonder what they would have to say about imposed narratives?

IMG_4941

Would it be more entertaining that what this guy had to say?

IMG_4937

So many people, with so much to say. All of it, so very entertaining.

In the redwoods of the National AIDS Memorial Grove, a little bird let me take his picture--one, two, three times. And that was it.

IMG_4977

He entertained me, but I had nothing for him.

IMG_4976

So he flew away. Although I don't think he was looking for entertainment.

The summer-killing anenome is everywhere now.

So is its deshabille girl Friday, Amaryllis belladonna.

I think all of the plants know it.

Even if some of them don't want to admit it.

The tree ferns are above it all.

IMG_4945

They just cannot be bothered to care.

The dahlias?

IMG_5005

Or are they just trying too hard? You can decide that for yourself too.

There is one thing that you should not decide, and this is something I will impose on you: Do not leave your car parked on Lincoln between 4 and 6 p.m. Noone wants you there. Lots of signs, all in red, warn you that no one will be entertained.

Great pics of the tree ferns, and really love the dahlias. Have been promising myself to plant some, and hope to in our "planting season" ie in November.

That's quite a handsome "burger face" you have there! Nice walk, and I appreciate the parking warning. ;-) Maybe it's just my twisted mind, but that shot of all the dahlias together reminded me of an angry crowd or riot...like all the dead-headed flower tops of my past coming to get me.....~~shudder~~!

If I had a lot of space, I would totally have some over-the-top dahlias. But if I grew those in my garden, it would be the only thing you'd notice.

I like the collerettes the best.

And I must have never read this sign before, because I did not know dahlias came from Mexico.

I think the cactus dahlias are my favorite. They look like sea anemones.

I love this post. I am SO jealous. We used to live in the city, on 48th Ave between Lincoln and Irving. We would walk up through GGPark to 9th and Irving to have banana splits made with
Double Rainbow Icecream at Just Desserts. Please go to Ocean Beach and take a picture of the Pacific Ocean for us. . .

Your comments crack me up. I'm not a dahlia person, but then I saw waterlily dahlias and now I want some.

I was never a dahlia person, either... until I saw some of the dark-leaf "Bishop of..." series. I think Canterbury is my favorite, but who remembers?

By the way, I think that last statue is definitely saying something to the plants below, and they're not liking it. See how scared stiff they are?

Will you come down to Los Angeles and walk through the Huntington Gardens with me? I'm a really fun date...
As for the Dahlias ... yes, I do think they are trying too hard. But so do I.
And my name was almost Dahlia.

Love those snaps!

Oh, I would love to visit the Huntington Library again. Guy and I had an early date there. Valentines Day weekend 2002.

I wasn't really a gardener then so I didn't appreciate it as much as I would now, that's for sure. There's so, so much in L.A. that I need to see and connect with. Los Angeles just fascinates me.

Of course, you can always come visit San Francisco too...!

I like those tree ferns. Did you encounter any dinosaurs in that part of the park?

Oh, you had fun with this post. Yes.
