I'm at the Blake Garden

I've blogged my visits here once, twice, three times before.

Lots and lots of paths and stairs.

Here under the Japanese maples, a volunteer:

The rhodie I once called a manzanita. I still think the buxus-agapanthus-rhodie trio works really well.

More paths.

I'm never thrilled the first time I see Anemone hupehensis japonica in August. It always means the end of summer is drawing near. And I like summer.

IMG_4737

At least we still have a lot of roses.

IMG_4755

Two nice yellow roses. I prefer the simple one.

A big Phaseolus coccineus teepee near the rose garden.

IMG_4879

I like these red and white flowers better than my single red.

IMG_4768

I would have liked to taste a bean to compare with mine, but I didn't.

IMG_4769

Pretty little borage.

IMG_4764

Dahlias.

Dahlia + Amaranthus. I like.

Another interesting container.

I'm watching the Food Channel and I am STARVING! Let's finish this thing.

IMG_4806

Check out this bench of recycled concrete.

IMG_4803

It's not super-comfortable, but it's not like hell either.

They let the dry phlomis stalks stand.

IMG_4809

Nice.

IMG_4813

I have Lupinus arboreus next to Arctostaphylos bakeri 'Louis Edmunds' (a manzanita) and their proximity makes the scene a tad too gray and fine-textured to be nice. Maybe a big grass like this...

IMG_4814

would be nice next to the manzanita.

IMG_4816

It's nice to have a lot of manzanita would to decorate with. (AHEM! "wood")

IMG_4823

Epilobium canum waking up underneath dormant Erigeron.

IMG_4828

IMG_4830

IMG_4834

Acer circinatum.

IMG_4835

Symphoricarpus albus.

IMG_4836

A nice place to stop.

Yes, summer's lease hath all too short a date. It gets dark at 9 now.

Manzanita doesn't look like something I could grow in Seattle.

I wouldn't think you could grow manzanita either, but I was surprised you could grow Ceanothus.

One day I would like my new garden to be that nice.

Summer's ending? I want a do-over. Yeah, you're right, I just went out and looked and the anemones are getting ready to bloom.

I used to grow that pink/gold dahlia. Yummy. And I love anemone, though your point is well taken.

Lisa + Phillip: You're welcome, as always.

Christopher: you and me both, my friend. I think you're going to have it sooner than I will, with your endless mountainscape.

LostRoses + eal: I don't exactly dislike the anemone--at least not for long. It's just, you know, *sigh*.
