Awesome.

Scientists scanning the deep interior of Earth have found evidence of a vast water reservoir beneath eastern Asia that is at least the volume of the Arctic Ocean.

The discovery marks the first time such a large body of water has found in the planet’s deep mantle.

Ok Mr. INTJ I have a question.

We have sucked a lot of the oil and gas out of the earth. We have sucked a lot of water out of it too. Now it seems they have found more H2O to suck from the earth's crust. These liquids and gases don't just lie in there inert without reacting in some way with the rock, pressure and heat down there.

Are we sucking all of the earth's natural lubrication out of the earth's skin? Can that have unforseen tectonic consequences?

I wondered that myself by the time I got to the end of the article, but geology is a hole in my scientific education so I have no clue.

But even if the ocean in the mantle is real, China won't be sucking it out anytime soon. The mantle is much too deep.

I agree with Christopher...I've always wondered about the spaces left after oil is removed-makes sense to me that it would likely cause shifting, etc. Lately, I've thought that maybe the decreasing levels in Lake Michigan may be caused by some undergroung "leak", where water is sucked into some space left by mining. Or maybe it's just my imagination...
