I've never seen the show, so I'd never thought about it, either.
I talked to my friend about it after I wrote that post, and he confirmed that everyone from the show has been really, really nice, although they did use some gentle peer pressure ("everyone else is helping us").
He said they wanted to park all over his lawn in the front and back yards, and he asked them if they would relandscape any damage for him. They said no, so he said no. They asked if he could park in his driveway, and he offered to let them do so for a small amount of money. Which I think was totally reasonable.
I mean, it's ABC, they're not hurting for cash. Yes, they're helping this one particular lady, but they're the ones who are really profiting from the show.
I tend to think if this was going on in my neighborhood, I'd work out some sort of deal involving access to the catering truck!

Huh. I don't know why, but I never thought about the neighbors. That would suck for them.
